First, it’s listed as a kit but it arrived fully assembled. The hole in the base for the wick to come through is kinda slightly too big and the wick sits in it loosely, making it a bit hard to control the flame size. It can be a bit hard to get it running but it also sometimes can take minimal effort. The flywheel can be spun in either direction and it sounds kinda like a diesel engine struggling to run (I consider this a plus). I have yet to see it run at full..harmonic balance(?) for more than literally two seconds, but it does keep running. Until it gets hot. Let me tell you, this thing gets *hot*. Scorchingly hot. You want to sit this on a coffee tin or upside down soup can, or if you have something made of stone. This thing gets so hot it will warp anything plastic it sits on. The cooling fins at the top of the engine could use some redesign. The thing gets so hot that it stops running after a few minutes and you have to blow it out and let it cool off before you start it again, and that’s achieved with the “tank” about 50% filled. You also want something metallic nearby like a steel rod in case the engine starts to walk away on you; even the flywheel reaches a temperature too hot to touch. The torch also produces a ton of soot, so you’ll want to have some paper towels or napkins handy to clean it off after it’s been ran (and cooled off).
