This is because the directions are terrible. They are full of low quality photos with bad lighting making some sub-assemblies difficult to assemble. Sometimes it was difficult to determine which side of the component you were looking at.
On top of that there was often no reference for proper placement or orientation of the components when building sub-assemblies.
