Received this engine several weeks ago and wanted to run the engine several times before writing this review. While the engine looks fantastic and is made from high quality engineered components, it's let down by a number of design issues which means it will never run properly. The cylinders are too large and encased in a big block of aluminium that draws all the heat out of the steam, consequently the boiler is simply too small to run this engine properly. The water level tube on the boiler is made of frosted plastic and impossible to see the water level. The burner is an open cup that you fill with methylated spirits and ignite, it has no handle so once it's burning you can't remove it from the engine if you need to extinguish it in a hurry. The burner flares up from time to time and you can have a 15cm flame shooting out the top of the flue. I actually find the burner to be quite scary to use and consider it to be dangerous! It takes two refills of the burner to get the boiler and the large metal engine warmed up, and a third refill to get the engine running. While the engine then runs smoothly, it doesn't run for long and doesn't have much power.
I feel like this product hasn't been developed properly and none of the design flaws corrected before it was released for sale.
If you're looking for a static display model then this engine does look impressive. However if you're looking for a working model engine then I would suggest looing at something else.
