I was hoping to illuminate sealed noble gas tubes with this product or a standard tesla coil for Spectral Emission demonstrations. This product was a qualified success.
This product worked silently with no visible electric arcs. It individually illuminated Neon and Helium tubes well, but did not illuminate Argon, Xenon or Krypton well enough to produce emission lines visible thru inexpensive spectral slides in a darkened room. I’d like to try it on CO2 and H. The unit got hot, but not enough to become an issue.
For anyone interested: Standard Tesla Coils (rated 10 and 20cm) illuminated all gasses well, but bright light from electric arcs and arc noise were too distracting to use as a classroom Spectral Emission demo. The bright arcs simply washed out any usable spectrum, and the noise was too loud to explain or discuss over.
Overall, for $40 this product worked well.
