I bought this motor for pleasure, I like it very much, everything fits beautifully, only a small snag on the clutch is such an aesthetic defect, but they wrote back to me that it does not affect the function. But from an aesthetic point of view, it's a pretty big mistake. Originally, I thought that the engine was supplied with an old type engine, but it came in a new one. The engine is not yet fully assembled and I will post a video when it is functional.

Nice little engine

Nice little engine kit all the machine work was spot on went together well they have changed the crankshaft a little bit around the rod journal (for safety is my guess) after assembly and setting the ign point timing added Coleman fuel mixed 25-1 with 2-stroke oil and it started right up. I ran it about an hour and shut it down the next day it had lost enough compression so it wouldn’t start I also noticed that the spark was arcing from the point spring to the bottom of the engine base I added a little piece of shrink tube over the bent part of the contact and replaced the piston O-Ring with the extra one that was included and it cranks right up. I do wish it had a little more durable piston ring setup but overall a great little engine

It’s not the attention to detail like the jet engine

Just received this engine, on first glance, parts look amazing but instruction manual for assembly leaves a lot to be desired. No parts labeled and a lot left for interpretation, along with the fact that you will need a magnifying glass and careful and precise interpretation of the instructions. The parts are of high quality but assembly instructions leave a lot to be desired compared to the jet engine that was assembled prior too

Retrol HM-01 Hit and Miss engine.

This was the first model engine I have built and I’m delighted to say everything went together beautifully. The components are well made and apart from removing a few burrs here and there they all assembled just perfectly. I picked up a few tips from the experts on YouTube along the way and enjoyed the challenge of getting the ignition timing just right. I have found lighter fuel (Shellite in Australia) mixed 40:1 with 2 stroke oil much cleaner burning than petrol and oil mixed at 25:1 as recommended in the instructions. Easier to start as well. I would like to see a battery box supplied with the ignition set and details of the batteries required. Also as others have mentioned, a longer HT lead to the spark plug is needed. Altogether though a beautiful well made engine that I really enjoyed building. Any suggestions what to build next?

As my son was 10 years old and really wanted to build a machine himself, having watched and participated with his father for a long time, I bought the HM 01 kit and let him build the machine according to his own ideas without any help.
Here is the result.
