What's Hit and Miss Engine?
A hit-and-miss engine is a type of four-stroke internal combustion engine that is controlled by a governor to operate at a set speed. It was conceived in the late 19th century and produced by various companies from the 1890s through approximately the 1940s. The name comes from the speed control on these engines: they fire ("hit") only when operating at or below a set speed, and cycle without firing ("miss") when they exceed their set speed. This is as compared to the "throttle governed" method of speed control. The sound made when the engine is running without a load is a distinctive "POP whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh POP" as the engine fires and then coasts until the speed decreases and it fires again to maintain its average speed.

Real cool!
After having played around with this little model engine I'm giving it 4 stars and only because there seems to be an issue with the Hall effect sensor. I've read a lot of different forums and it seems that almost everyone has the same issue. On the other hand customer support has been very good at responding to the issue and I would give them five stars. The instructions say to use lighter fluid but I would recommend using mixed gas, 50:1 is a good mixture, it's a little messy but gives the engine the lubrication that it needs because lighter fluid has really none. The build is very good for the price, not by a machinist standard I'm sure. Do a little research and you'll see that hit/miss model engines can cost as much as $3000.
