In early 2022 we introduced the CISON FL4-175 flathead L4 gasoline engine, and this time we decide to bring its upgraded version - the L4-175 OHV L4 gasoline engine, which maintained a unique, mini and compact appearance and almost the same displacement, compared to the previous L4 engine. This new CISON OHV L4 engine adds red sports elements on the surface, roughens the crankshaft, and adopts bionics on the carburetor. OHV valve mechanism gives the engine a better power output performance than the flathead one's design for higher torque output, which is more compatible with RC off-road trucks, tows, etc. Equipped with a standard electrical starting, water cooling system and independent lubrication system, the new L4-175 OHV L4 gas engine will also be available in two versions, the KIT version and the assembled version. And this time, the CISON OHV L4 engine is already for sale now. Any questions or advice, please feel free to contact us service@enginediy.com.

This engine is the improved evolution of the 4-175 flathead model.
Apart from some initial problems with the electric starter motor, the engine starts well and runs really smoothly with a nice voice. The intake and exhaust manifolds are truly exceptional. Some reservations for the precision of the carburettor. It would be nice to be able to have a 4 carburettor supply (of good quality) to make the engine even more sporty and performing..

Joli moteur

A superb little engine.
Another superb little engine from Cison, it looks really cool & sounds great, well engineered & designed the only thing I struggled with was fitting the main mixture control screw to the carburettor, the rubber o ring seal wouldn't fit into the tube, the recess on the screw where the o ring fits was too shallow & should have been machined a bit deeper, I have come across this same fault on other Cison engines. I machined the recess myself & now the screw & seal goes in comfortably, apart from that all is well, I love it.

Cison L4-175 issues
I would love to give 5 stars for this engine as overall it is a lovely engine. Unfortunately I have had several issues with it.
First of all the conrods came with 3 different lengths of bolts fitted this was due to the rods not being tapped deep enough (there was a bag of bolts tucked underneath the rods in the packaging which were the correct length). But I still had to purchase a tap to rectify the problem.
Secondly when I fitted the piston rings to the first piston the rings would not rotate and were stuck in the piston. On further investigation I found that there was a sharp edge on the inner edge of the piston ring, this sharp edge was on 5 out of 8 of the rings. Unfortunately when trying to remove the rings from the piston one of them broke as it was really jammed in the ring grove, the other rings I used a fine “Norton” stone to debur them. I have been trying to contact EngineDIY since December and I am still waiting for an answer from Lucas.
Thirdly the oil pump body also had two out of the four threads which hold on the rear cover not tapped deep enough. Again I had to purchase a tap to rectify the problem.
At this point I have shelved the engine and not gone any further as I am waiting for a reply from EngineDIY. Fortunately I am an engineer so sorting out these problems is not a big issue for me but if you are someone with little or no experience in engineering / mechanical problems then I would say this is not for you as the build manual leaves a lot to be desired.
