Five stars for the product and five stars for customer service. I have purchased several of the model steam engines from ENGINEDIY and they are all very impressive. The engineering and manufacturing tolerances are very high quality. All parts fit together perfectly. The models have been a pleasure to build and operate. Also, I have found that customer service of ENGINEDIY is excellent too. I made a slight modification to this particular model by using coiled up oil lamp wicks in the burner to heat the water in the boiler. I find this works better than cotton ball type wading which usually lasts for only one run.

Very impressed!
When I received the Retrol SE-3, I was impressed with the box and packaging. During the building of the engine I was very impressed by the use of real ball bearings and that there was a WORKING governor. I have many antique and new steam engines and not one of them has a governor that actually controls the speed of the engine.
This would be a 5 star review if were not for the steam valve being frozen and not turning. I applied oil which did not work, but I was able to get the valve working by applying heat with a hair dryer. This engine is one of the top five in my collection!

Engine went together easily and ran great, balanced, smooth and better than Retrol's promo vid. I got this from a different supplier, but I support EngineDIY as well, great retailer.

Pretty cool working model steam engine
Neat little steam engine kit. Came complete to assemble the components into a working steam engine. Couple of things I would have liked to have included: some silicone hose for the blow down outlet, more small o-rings. spare rubber drive belts and some steam oil. I ordered some steam oil from Jensen steam engines.
Overall the kit was well though out with provisions for maintenance i.e. access holes in the black base to get to screws otherwise inaccessible, bearings on shafts, etc. I had to grind a portion of the boiler's base to remove the burner tray without removing the thumb screws and the governor doesn't seem to do anything but look cool and spin around. The little generator really bogs down the engine and I have concerns if the SE-03 has enuf power to run the transmission tools.
But I like it and will likely buy more merch from EngineDIY.
