Just a little short of magic...

Bought this as a Christmas gift for my grandson (11 years old) who shares my tech-geek genes. Had it shipped to my house first so I could play with it a while before sending it on to him. Loved it and hated to part with it. The Rugrat appears to like it as much as I did.

Imbalanced and takes a lot of light to actually get it to work.

OK but a bit disappointing, I bought an identical one of these from another manufacturer as a gift for my brother and this one appears to not work so well.
It is over weighted on one side so it is unbalanced meaning that it requires more energy to rotate fully to overcome the imbalance.
It doesn’t appear to work in normal daylight coming through the window and I have to use a 1,000 lumen torch on it’s highest setting to get to work.
at certain rotation speeds the imbalance can cause it to bounce up and down, and as it slows this bounce can become quite exaggerated and violent causing it to knock as it rotates,
It is currently winter time and i have not had the opportunity of a sunny day to try it outside yet.
If I hadn’t already bought one of these elsewhere that works better I wouldn’t be so disappointed in this one, otherwise I am very happy with it.

Levitating Solar Motor

1) OnLineShopping: I received the item within the promised delivery date (altough i live in Switzerland); the packaging was excellent - nothing was broken nor damaged by scratches or otherwise.
2) As a technical demonstration of a phsical principle, it is constructed excuisitely.
3) Cotrary to the text, it actually requires quite bright sunlight to actually work.
