the engine was well packaged.
no damage was seen at the cardboard box .
she runs out of the box.
filled with 6cc of alcohol(ethanol),
all movable parts are gently oiled
without the piston and the flat brass sheet in front of the cylinder.
the base of the tank is very nice made
and looks very fine as a part of this engine. i'm glad to have this .
I was a bit unimpressed at the quality of this engine vs the Retrol HM01. The engine came packaged very well but the cylinder had come loose in shipping and it rattled around in the box scratching the red paint on the engine and putting surface dings on the cylinder. I reinstalled the cylinder and the prepped the engine for starting. I am impressed at how quickly it started and how well it ran. My only other concern is the surface quality of some of the machining, In todays world with all the cnc equipment and comparing it to other Retrol engines this engine lacks in machining quality. Fortunately I have a home machine shop where I can address these quality issues. It would have been a 5 star review had the above concerns been addressed in manufacturing.
The engine was delivered very quickly, and was packaged very well to ensure it arrived safely.
It's an unusual but attractive looking engines. One of the flywheel rims was loose, but was easy to fix by simply tightening a grub screw. The engine ran first go and is one of the best running vacuum engines that I've come across! Holding my finger against the flywheel it actually feels like it will have enough power to drive some accessories.
Very happy with this purchase, and can highly recommend it for anyone looking for something a little quirky and unusual.
At first glance, this appeared to be a well made engine. And so I was very disappointed when I first started it. One flywheel ran true and the other one wobbled badly. Fortunately, I have a basement machine shop and with all my machine tools I was finally able to get the "wobbler" to run true. Also the top of the gas cap for the fuel tank was very poorly machined - I had to resurface it with my South Bend lathe. It appears that whoever is in charge of quality control must have been on vacation the day this engine was made...
Very nice looking engine. I have not had the time to run it yet. directions are very simple. Cannot wait totry it out
